Do you plan to travel Korea this spring or summer? Korea is a perfect country for your trip without any previous experience. However, you may feel inconvenienced because you do not know local tips to navigate in the fastest moving country in the world. Here are the secret tips you may not know. This can help you relieve your stress to travel Korea.
Up to Date Apps
In Korea, many apps can help you get the best of daily life. If you don’t speak Korean, that’s okay; many apps have other languages for you to use, which makes it convenient.
- Taxi/ Public Transportation Apps : Taxis are often hard to call. However, it is extremely easy if you use apps like Kakao T, k.ride, TADA, or even Uber, just like it is in America. Kakao T is the most popular one but you need Kakao accounts. TADA is known for being more comfortable and for many riders at once. Here is a fun fact: TADA drivers are preferred because they do not talk too much to their riders. It is their policy. Seoul has a lot of public transportation to avoid traffic. If you download Naver Map, Kakao Map and Subway Korea, you can get to know when, where, what to ride or transfer in the easiest and fastest way. There are some apps showing if they have empty seats. Also, you can experience a warmed bench at bus stop in winter.
- Parking Apps : Due to the lack of land in Korea, parking is much harder. You can use apps like iParking, Seoul Parking Info, and Modueui Parking to help you see parking spaces and nearby lots. Make sure all information is up-to-date if you want the best result. With these apps, you can reserve the spot and prepay the parking fee.
- Delivery Apps : Korea has the best delivery food. When the seasons are either scorching, or freezing, you can just click the delivery apps like Shuttle, Coupang Eats, Baemin, and Yogiyo. (Baemin and Yogiyo provide English.) You should expect a diverse delivery cuisine including traditional delivery food like Jjajangmeyon in a couple of minutes. Make sure your address is clear (add "호" for unit number, and “동” for the building number) and give them the passcode to enter the main gate, not your house passcode.
Hot Places & Family Places
There are a lot of family friendly places and trendy spots for K-cultures.
- Kids’ Places : Kids’ places are perfect when they want to play with friends in Korea and while they are playing, they can purchase food and drinks. They have supervisors, meaning that parents can go out without watching them, unless they are below 6 years old. Some places include Champion Black Belt, VAUNCE, and Tayo Kids Cafe (recommended for little children). Amusement parks and zoos are perfect for kids to go on a nice weather day. Some places include Lotte World, Kidzania, JobWorld, Everland, National Museum of Korea, and COEX Aquarium. All these places can be perfect for children at any age, since JobWorld has a great age separation with teen sides and children’s sides. Here is the tip! JobWorld and Kidzania are almost similar but JobWorld is cheaper and less crowded when you go there on weekday afternoons!
- Hot Places & Pop-up Stores : Hot places are fun when you are especially younger as an adult and if you like K pop, K bakery, K beauty and K fashion, your place is there. Make sure you go to Seongsu, Hongdae, Myeongdong, Gangnam, and Hannamdong/ Itaewon. You will see many foreigners are asking questions in Korean about cosmetics at Olive Young stores in Seongsu. You can meet Global brand’s pop-up stores like jelly cats and Netflix’s beloved pop-up stores like Squid game or K pop demon hunters. Use Naver, Instagram or TikTok to find the schedule of pop-up stores.
Relax
Korea is a place of walking and being mostly busy. Don’t you think you can maybe relax after going to so many places? There are a few types of relaxing areas that depend on the wellness for different personalities.
- Spas & Wellness : Spas and wellness areas include luxury spas, jjimjilbangs, saunas, and unique spas. Jjimjilbangs are a room that includes hot baths and hot rooms. They also have a cold bath for blood circulation, and they have existed for a very long time. Saunas and spas are included in jjimjilbangs, but luxury spas are in Chungdam or Hannam dong in Seoul.
- Nature/ Gardens & Traditional/ Cultural Retreats : Korea is full of ancient and aesthetic han-ok, and multiple gardens that are perfect for calmness and silence. After going to so many places, it may be to any traveler that it’s perfect to go to a traditional place. Some include han-ok, traditional Korean houses, and gardens like Damyunjae, and Seoul Forest, or Jeju Island.
This can be extremely helpful if you avoid any hassles. Apps, family places, hot places and places to relax in, can truly make a day. Now are you ready for fun in Korea?
